Pennsylvania Health Information Exchange (PHIX)
Governor Edward Rendel by Executive Order 2008-03
authorized the establishment of the Pennsylvania
Health Information Exchange (PHIX). The objective of
PHIX is to create a statewide system for the
improvement and authorized access to electronic
health information. The use of a secure statewide
health information exchange will provide authorized
health care professionals the information they need
to provide services no matter when or where a
patient needs care. The overall goals of PHIX are
to:
-
improve patient safety
-
reduce redundant tests and
procedures
-
lead to reduced health care
costs while improving public health monitoring
and tracking
-
enable Pennsylvania to connect
to the national health information network
