Required Qualifications:

Requires Bachelors degree with 2–3 years supervisory experience, preferably in a Medical Records or healthcare setting. RHIT/RHIA certification preferred. Must have valid driver’s license, strong communication skills and a detailed, coaching-based management style.

HIP Curriculum Designer
Temple University/Center for Social Policy and Community Development

Introduction:

The Center for Social Policy and Community Development (CSPCD) at Temple University seeks a qualified individual who will serve as a consultant to assist in developing curriculum domains for the Health Information Professions (HIP) Tier II training program, which will prepare individuals for the AHIMA CCS, CCS-P credentials. The curriculum developed must therefore meet the standards/requirements necessary for HIP Tier II to become an AHIMA Approved Coding Certificate Program.

Job Description:

The Curriculum Designer will be responsible for working with faculty and instructors to:

  • Design of the Clinical Classification Systems/Reimbursement Methodologies domain of the HIP Tier 2 curriculum

  • Design of the Health Information Management/Healthcare Data Content/Healthcare Delivery Systems domain of the HIP Tier 2 curriculum

Required Qualifications:

The individual should possess the following qualifications:

  • Possess one of the following AHIMA recognized credentials: CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT

  • Possess familiarity with the ICD-10 CM coding book (formal training in ICD-10 CM coding is preferred)

  • Possess experience in designing curricula for courses/training programs in post-secondary institutions of higher learning

  • Possess experience in the training and the instruction of staff and/or students

  • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Possess the ability to receive constructive criticism from colleagues

  • Possess the ability to consistently meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Reside in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area as face-to-face meetings would be preferred

  • Familiarity with the accreditation process for AHIMA is preferred

Education Qualifications:

  • Possess at least a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred)

  • 3-5 years work experience in the following areas: Health Information Management, the Biomedical Sciences, Inpatient Coding or Outpatient Coding

Compensation/Benefits:

$30,000 as a curriculum development consultant

The Coding Manager oversees the on-site processes and functions in Health Information Management related to remote coding to facilitate high quality, cost effective delivery of coding services to the client.

Duties include:

  • Management of scanning staff and acting as a liaison with HIM department, physicians, remote coding staff, and Directors of Remote Coding Operations and Sales Support

  • Interacts with billing office, physicians, IT and hospital personnel to resolve coding/billing issues

  • Strong interpersonal skills are critical.

  • Actively works and understands the DNFB/DNFC process

  • Works on multiple IT platforms, including patient finance, encoders, as well as Precyse and client IT systems Stays abreast of the differences in payment processes amongst insurance payers

  • Possesses a solid grasp of the charge master, revenue codes, processing patient type changes, cancelled accounts, and working multiple edits

  • Participates in the processing of RAC audits as well as all types of internal and external auditing

  • Possesses a strong grasp of MS-DRGs, APCs, and the transition to ICD-10

  • Has the ability to work for the benefit of Precyse as well as the benefit of the client; client must have the ability to communicate with Precyse team and identify areas where communication can be improved.

  • Supervises the day-to-day operations of Precyse scanning personnel, reporting issues to appropriate client staff as necessary. Ensures scanning function is covered in absence of regular staff.

  • Conducts counseling, performance appraisals, interviewing, etc., of scanning staff

  • Assesses scanning/coding workflow processes, identifies innovative solutions when improvement is needed and initiates changes

  • Communicates with Remote Coding Manager/Coders as necessary

  • Acts as a liaison to CDI specialists to facilitate documentation issues identified by coders

  • Acts as a liaison to physicians to facilitate any Physician Query questions

  • Reviews physician queries submitted by coders for leading or non-compliant language

  • Assists in developing new query forms as needed

  • Provides weekly reports to client and Regional Operations Manager and Director of Remote Coding Operations

  • Revises and updates coding policies and procedures in collaboration with HIM Director, as requested

  • Maintains strict physician and patient confidentiality and follows state, federal and hospital guidelines for the release of information.

  • Candidate should be available to work a weekend if needed; candidate may have also need to work an evening shift from time to time

  • Supports Precyse's Compliance Program by demonstrating adherence to all relevant compliance policies and procedures as evidenced by in-service attendance and daily practice; notifying management when there is a compliance concern or incident; demonstrating knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations as evidenced by appropriate handling of patient information; promoting confidentiality and using discretion when handling patient information.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Requires strong interpersonal skills to work with physicians and staff to implement positive change

  • Demonstrated customer-oriented management style

  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer technology and automated system designs for HIM

  • RHIA or RHIT and Associate or Bachelors Degree in Health Information Management or related field

  • CCS preferred but not required; candidate must be able to code both inpatient and outpatient records

  • Minimum of three years' experience as a Director of Health Information Management or five years' experience as a Coding Manager

  • Manager must be able to code and audit

  • Strong hands-on experience with MS Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point
